Travel Insurance
Travel Insurance is an important service we offer to anyone who leaves their home province or country for any reason – either business or pleasure. Having a Travel Insurance plan is a valuable asset as many health expenses incurred outside of Manitoba are not fully covered by other provincial health plans and for visitors to Canada or international students, emergency health cost are not subsidized by provincial health plans.
Manitoba Health even recommends travellers buy Travel Health Insurance:
If you are visiting another province or territory and need insured medical care, show your Manitoba health card. If the required service is covered in Manitoba, the doctor may bill Manitoba Health directly.
If the doctor bills you instead, pay the bill and get an itemized receipt. You can submit this receipt to the Insured Benefits Branch for review and consideration of full or partial reimbursement.
If you are visiting another country, you may be responsible for paying the costs of emergency medical care. We highly recommend that you buy travel health insurance from an insurance company before you leave. (Source:https://wrha.mb.ca/travel-health/health-information-for-the-traveller/covid-19/)
For Students
According to Manitoba Health students who are studying in other provinces or countries will be covered, but only within certain limits.
Any services provided that MB health does not cover would be billed to the patient. If absent outside of Canada MB health will pay eligible services at our MB rates only.
That is another reason to purchase Travel Insurance, to make sure that students and their families are not stuck with excessive costs if an accident should occur far away from home.
For Visitors to Canada/ Super Visa & International Students
According to Canadian Immigration, visitors to Canada & international students are responsible to cover their own health expenses which could be more expensive compared to their home countries. In addition, immigrants who are planning to sponsor relatives or friends to visit Canada under the Super Visa program requires a minimum coverage of $100,000 for 1 yr. before even being considered.
Other Benefits
With a Travel Insurance plan, you won’t have to worry about paying large medical bills in the case of illness, injury or accident.
